QR Codes Can Be Dangerous

At Blue Team Tom Consulting, our goal is to keep you informed and safe.
While QR codes are convenient, they can also be dangerous if misused. Scanning a random code could put your data, devices, and accounts at risk. Here are a few key concerns to watch out for:

  1. Scammers are now hiding dangerous links inside QR codes, a trick called quishing. Because most email security tools only check text and not images, these QR codes often slip through filters.

  2. If you scan a fake QR code, it could secretly install harmful software on your phone. This software might steal your information, track your location, or even read your contacts and messages.

  3. QR codes don’t just open websites, they can also start other actions, like writing an email for you, adding a fake contact, or even sending money to a scammers account.
